If you are staying at the Aviator’s Landing Crash Pad at the end of June, and looking to swim off-base, be sure to check out the Linda Wiginton Aquatic Center.  It opened in 1981 and is equipped with an outdoor and indoor pool.  It also has two slides – a speed slide, and a curly slide for those who want to be a little more leisurely.

However, it isn’t open all day long.  The outdoor pool is open from 1 to 8 pm., and the indoor pool is open from 5 to 8 p.m.

The indoor pool is 25 meters long, which is great if you like to lap swim, take swim lessons or water aerobics.   This is also where the Kids triathlon and adult Spirit Sprint Triathlon will take place on June 29th and 30th.

The triathlons are part of the American Spirit Festival held annually at the Hoyt Shadid Park.   The Kids triathlon will be June 29th at 4 p.m.   Don’t worry – the triathlon is divided by age!

For children ages 6 to 9, the race is a 25-meter swim, 1-mile bike ride, and a half-mile run.   Ages 10 to 12 swim 50 meters, ride bikes for two miles, and complete a one-mile run.  For the older kids aged 13 to 14, the swim is 75 meters, followed by a three-mile bike ride, and a two-mile run.  The cost is $35 per child and you can register at playaltus.com.

The adult triathlon kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on June 30th (also at the Linda Wiginton Aquatic Center).  Adults will be swimming 500 meters, completing a 15-mile bike ride, followed by a 5k run.  The cost for adults is $50.   However, if you want to build a team, it’s $25 per person.  Adults can register at okc.enmotive.com/2019-American-spirit-triathlon.

If aren’t interested in the triathlon, but want to be part of the festival, head over to the Hoyt Shadid Park at 3 p.m.   It is about a 10-minute drive from Aviator’s Landing Crash Pad.  The American Spirit festival will have food vendors, games, blow-up inflatables, live music, and fireworks at dusk.

If you’re ready for a pool-side respite ON-base, feel free to hit up the pool according to the following hours of availability:
